bay|ber|ry «BAY BEHR ee, -buhr-», noun, plural -ries.
1. a North American shrub with clusters of grayish-white berries coated with wax. The leaves of the shrub are aromatic, and candles made from the wax of the berries burn with a pleasant fragrance. The bayberry belongs to the same genus as the wax myrtle.
2. one of the berries.
3. a West Indian tree whose leaves yield an aromatic oil used in the preparation of bay rum.
